As I traveled through the store the other day in search of some new decorations for Thanksgiving, I found myself walking through the land of Christmas. Whatever happen to Thanksgiving? One of the biggest holidays we have and on November 2nd, I can’t find one decoration for it. It seems before the Halloween candy is even off the shelves they are restocking them with holiday goodies for December. Don’t waste your time trying to find a turkey because chances are the poor things are in the back with the Halloween candy, after all, turkeys don’t sell like Gameboys. Don’t get me wrong I love the holidays, to me it is the best time of year. But we tend to rush into the holiday season so swiftly that in the hustle and bustle of it all, we tend to lose the meaning of what the season is all about. So, to help you remember what the True Reason for the Season is all about , the Colonia Corner has two events coming up that we invite you to join us in. The first is our Holiday Food Drive on November 19th to help fill the food pantries for Woodbridge Township which are running dangerously low. If each family brought just one small can of food image how many people our little town could feed. We will be collecting canned and non-persihable food in front of School 21 on Inman Avenue between 10 & 12noon. All you have to do is pulled your car into the lot, open up your window and we’ll come right up to you and take your donation. It’s the season of giving; so please take a few minutes from your busy day and give to those who are hungry this Thanksgiving. On December 2nd bring your voices, young and old, and join us as we Christmas Carol at the Grier Towers’ Senior Citizen Home on Inman Avenue, (between St. John Vianneys’ Preschool and Main School). We will meet there at 11am Saturday Morning to bring the spirit of the holidays to some of our Golden Neighbors. Thanksgiving is truly one of the best Holiday’s there is. It is about who is around your table and not about what gifts will be exchanged after the meal. It is about breaking bread with the ones you love and being thankful for those who are in your lives. So don’t rush into December just yet; enjoy your turkey and mashed potatoes and the company of those who grace your Thanksgiving table this year. Give thanks for those you cherish and love and keep in your hearts those who are hungry and alone without much to be thankful for this holiday season. As always, keep in your prayers our brave men and women who are away from their families this holiday season as they protect our families overseas. From our families to your families, Happy Thanksgiving.
