COLONIA COUNTRY CLUB UPDATE KATHY CHANG Staff Writer WOODBRIDGE — Township officials are continuing to work on potential negotiations with the Board Directors of the Colonia Country Club to keep the 104 acre property on Colonia Boulevard open space. John Hagerty, communications director for the township, said the township has retained land use attorney Karl P. Kemm, of Hoagland, Longo, Moran, Dunst & Doukas, LLP. “We are securing an appraisal of the property and will submit an offer to purchase the development rights to the board of directors at the country club,” he said. The key to the purchase of the development rights, Hagerty said, is that the course will become public. Mayor John E. McCormac and his administration held a public meeting on Jan. 21 at Colonia High School discussing the township’s plan to acquire the club. The 600 or so residents who attended the meeting applauded the mayor’s efforts in keeping the club open space. The mayor explained that the township is going to make an offer to the club to buy the developmental rights at a price that they think is appropriate and based on a professional appraisal. And as a last resort, the mayor said, they may have to use eminent domain in the public’s interest to ensure the township’s quality of life and ensure that the township’s quality of education is maintained. |
