The Automated Trash Collection & Recycling Program is working for Colonia residents.

Last year, we introduced the Automated Trash Collection & Recycling Program.   The Automated Trash Collection & Recycling Program continues to be tremendously successful in so many ways – it is cost-effective for the Township and for taxpayers and provides residents with a clean, convenient and attractive system for the disposal of household trash and recyclable materials.  With input from homeowners and businesses, we improved system operations and pick-up schedules.  And, just recently, we ordered additional automated trucks and collection containers.  Today, the fully-automated trash trucks save the Township thousands of dollars by reducing the three-man work crew to a single driver.  And, as the trucks are larger and more efficient, they can pack-in more trash, thus reducing trips to the County landfill, which saves tens-of-thousands of dollars in landfill costs and thousands of gallons of fuel.  It is our goal to have the entire Township fully automated by 2011.

More good news for Colonia residents.  Beginning in March, recycling is even easier.  Very simply, ALL recyclable items – cardboard, newspaper, mixed paper, bottles, cans, plastics – can now be placed together in the blue recycling container.  There is no need to separate any recyclable items.  Single-stream recycling includes all households – it doesn’t matter what pick-up schedule you are on.  If your recycling is collected on Wednesday, put all recycling together in the blue recycling container.  If you are part of the Automated Trash Collection & Recycling Program, just continue putting everything in the 95-gallon blue recycling container for pick-up on your regularly scheduled day.  It’s that simple… recycling goes in one blue container for once-a-week pick-up.

As we continue to implement the Automated Trash Collection & Recycling Program, we expect you will have questions.  If your trash pick-up is currently twice-a-week (Monday/Thursday or Tuesday/Friday with Wednesday recycling collection) you will continue on that schedule until you receive notice of the new Automated Trash Collection & Recycling Program.  If you are already on the Automated Trash Collection & Recycling Program (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday trash pick-up and Thursday or Friday recycling collection) you schedule remains unchanged.

If you have additional questions regarding trash and recycling collection or the new Automated Trash Collection & Recycling Program, please contact the Public Works Department - Sanitation Office at: 732-738-1311 x3600, the Office of Recycling at: 732-738-1311 x3035 or log-on to the Township Web Page at www.twp.woodbridge.nj.us..

Thank you for your participation in the Automated Trash Collection & Recycling Program.
